# Log Training

Got your hours? Get your credit.

## Tap + to Log

Tap **Training** in the navigation bar, then tap the **Floating Action Button (FAB)**, the red circle with a **+** at the bottom right. (You can also tap **Log training** on your [Daily Briefing](/getting-started/daily-briefing.md).) The **Log Training** screen opens.

## Enter Training Details

Give your training a **Title** (the only required field) and a **Description**, then tap **Start** to pick the date and time it began. Enter the **Duration (h)**, how many hours the training lasted, and the **CE units earned**, how many continuing education credits it's worth. Most Cert Types measure CE in hours, though some use other units.

## Classify Your Training

Choose the **Discipline** (Fire, EMS, Hazmat, Technical Rescue, and so on) and the **Training type** (like Lecture, Skills, Online, or Clinical).

Then add **Topics**, which tell CertLocker what the training covered. Tap one of the **Suggested** topics, or search for one, and you can even type your own. Topics matter: when they match a requirement on one of your Certs, and the training date falls inside that Cert's current renewal window, CertLocker credits the training to that requirement automatically (see [Track Renewal Progress](/my-certs/track-renewal-progress.md)).

## Add the Instructor & Location

Fill in the **Instructor name** and **Instructor email**, then, under **Location**, where the training took place: **Venue / address**, **City**, **State**, and **ZIP**.

## Attach Your Certificate

If you received a certificate of completion, tap **Upload attachment** in the **Attachment** section and choose the file, so it's ready to submit when you renew. You can also add one later (see [Completion Certificates](/training/completion-certificates.md)).

## Tap Save

Tap **Save** in the top right corner, and your new Training Record opens. Tap **Training** to return to your list, where it appears on the **Upcoming** tab if it's in the future, or **History** if it's already happened.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Training from your department?** If your Org ran the session in CertLocker and marked you as attended, it's already in your History, so there's no need to log it again.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.firecal.app/training/log-training.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
