# View a Cert

Everything about one Cert, on one screen.

## Tap to Open

From your Locker, **Tap a Cert** to open the **Certification** screen. Everything about that Cert lives here: its document, its dates, and your progress toward renewal.

## Status & Document

At the top left you'll see the Cert's **Status**, such as **Active**, **Due soon**, or **Expired** (see [Renewal Dates & Status](/my-certs/renewal-dates-and-status.md) for what each one means). Below it is a preview of your attached document. Tap the preview to open it full size in the **PDF Viewer**, where you can **Print** or **Download** it, then tap the **X** to close it.

<figure><picture><source srcset="https://946479658-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOWuzIpL5k2toZeIBVvC%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-66ebed6548c619fc88f05acffe3c54db504c9e0b%2Fcertlocker-pdf-viewer-dark.png?alt=media" media="(prefers-color-scheme: dark)"><img src="https://946479658-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOWuzIpL5k2toZeIBVvC%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-1dee1eeb2292e01f4c04673f9846b199a7a825c7%2Fcertlocker-pdf-viewer.png?alt=media" alt="The PDF Viewer showing a certificate full screen, with Print and Download in the top bar" width="375"></picture><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Right under the preview are **Renew**, for when you've renewed this Cert (see [Renew a Cert](/my-certs/renew-a-cert.md)), and **Replace**, for swapping in a better copy of the same document (see [Replace an Attachment](/my-certs/replace-an-attachment.md)). If the Cert doesn't have a document yet, you'll see **Upload attachment** instead.

## Name, Type & Dates

Next come the Cert's name and its Cert Type, followed by its dates: **Issued**, **Expires**, and, for Certs with a renewal deadline, **Due**, which is the last day to finish your training for this renewal (it can come before the expiration date). You can change **Issued** and **Expires** right here (see [Update Cert Details](/my-certs/update-cert-details.md)), and **Due** follows from your current renewal.

## Renewal Progress & Dates

Scroll down to find the **Renewal progress** card, showing how much of your renewal requirement you've completed. Tap it to open the full breakdown, where you can credit training and log hours (see [Track Renewal Progress](/my-certs/track-renewal-progress.md)). Below it, **Renewal dates** lists the important deadlines for this renewal, like when CE is due, the last day for the standard fee, and when reinstatement ends.

## Viewing Someone Else's Cert

When you open a Cert someone has shared with you (as a Follower, a fellow Org Member, or by invitation), you'll see the same screen, with a note that reads **Shared with you. The owner controls edits and who can see this.** You can view the document, but only the owner can make changes or share it further.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.firecal.app/my-certs/view-a-cert.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
