# Import Certs with AI

Certs, meet CertBot.

Have a stack of cards and certificates? Let **CertBot** do the typing. Take clear photos of your Certs (or gather the documents you already have), and CertBot reads each one into a Cert you can review before it's saved to your Locker. AI import is free for everyone.

## Tap + and Import with AI

Tap **My Certs** in the navigation bar, then tap the **Floating Action Button (FAB)**, the red circle with a **+** at the bottom right, and choose **Import with AI**.

## Add Your Files

Tap **Add files**, then choose the photos or documents of your Certs. CertBot can read photos, PDFs, Word and Excel documents, and text files, and you can pick one file or many at once. You can even add a **.zip** file, and CertBot will read the supported documents inside it (it skips folders inside the .zip and file types it can't read).

Each file you add appears in the window. Remove any you didn't mean to add, or tap **Add more files** to keep going.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Clear photos make for better results.** Lay the card flat in good light, fill the frame, and avoid glare. If a file can't be read, you can try a better photo or [add that Cert by hand](/my-certs/add-a-cert.md).
{% endhint %}

## Send to CertBot

When your files are ready, tap **Send to CertBot**, and give CertBot a moment to read them.

## Review What CertBot Found

CertBot shows you what it read from each document, right beside a preview of the document itself, so you can check its work. Look over the **Certificate name**, the **Issued** and **Expires** dates, the **ID / certificate number**, **Issued by / location**, and **Instructor / evaluator**, and correct anything that isn't right. Under **Select the Cert Type:**, choose the Cert Type that matches your Cert (CertBot suggests the closest matches, and you can search for others). Anything else CertBot noticed on the document shows up in **AI notes**.

If you imported a single file, tap **Add to My Certs** when everything looks right, and you'll be taken straight to your new Cert.

If you imported several files, you'll see how many are ready, how many need a look, and how many couldn't be read. Open each one that needs a look, fix it up, and tap **Done**. Every item that needs a look or couldn't be read must be fixed or removed before you can save, so use **Remove from import** for anything you don't want to keep. Then tap **Add N Certs** (where N is the number ready to save), and you'll be routed back to your Locker, where your new Certs will appear. If only one is ready, the button reads **Add 1 Cert**, and saving opens that Cert.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Your original file comes along.** The photo or document you imported is saved as the Cert's attachment, and CertBot's notes are kept separate from your own notes.
{% endhint %}

## How Did CertBot Do?

At the bottom of the review, you can rate CertBot with the stars under **How did CertBot do?** Your ratings help us make CertBot better for everyone.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Don't import the same Cert twice.** If an import is interrupted, check your Locker for the Certs that were already saved before trying again.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.firecal.app/my-certs/import-certs-with-ai.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
